As we begin a new year, it is fitting that we present our
organization's goals for 2008 while thanking those who helped with accomplishments
during the past year. The face of our business community continues
to change, and as it develops, our membership numbers increase.
This is a testament of the positive growth represented by our
membership. The Mission of the Spearfish Area Chamber of
Commerce is to advance a positive business climate, and to provide
leadership in the promotion and managed growth of the community.
That mission is not accomplished by the minority; rather, many
visionary volunteers come together to shape this organization
and the community by sharing ideas and giving input through our
various boards, committees and task forces. Our 2008 Organizational
Goals include:
1. Development
of a Young Professionals Group to engage those business leaders
ages 21-40.
2. Increase
the awareness of Family and Outdoor Activities in and around the
city of Spearfish.
3. Creation
of a SUSEL Task Force to market Spearfish to scientists and
others moving to our area in conjunction with the Underground Lab in
Lead.
4. Research
Funding opportunities for the Chamber and Convention and
Visitor Bureau.
5. Assess
the Chamber Staff size and plan for succession and development in
relation to our growing membership.
6. Continue
to communicate our mission by providing Advocacy, Resources and
Marketing for the Spearfish business community and our membership.
7. Combine
with other entities to provide resources for continued
development of affordable housing in Spearfish.
8. Continue
conversations with the City on Enhancement of Downtown and work with Economic
Development on recruitment of niche retail opportunities.
Your volunteer board of directors and professional staff
represent a cross section of the Chamber membership and a wealth of
combined business expertise. I would like to take this opportunity
to thank out-going president Travis Geppert for his outstanding
service over the past year. He will continue to remain an active
Past President through 2008. I am also excited to welcome
the input and experience of Scott Gannaway as our Vice President.
The knowledge and time offered by these officers, along with
directors Lenny Gomez, Sharon Hoggatt, Josh Horak, Matt Long, Paul
Pankonin, Kay Schallenkamp, new directors Jesse Hansen and Eric
Strawn, and city council liaison Eric Davis, will continue to move
our organization in a positive direction. It is my pleasure to serve
the membership of the Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce as
President. I not only welcome your continued commitment to our
organization, but also your input and energy to help carry out our
goals.
Sincerely,
Suzanne
Dardis, President
Spearfish Area Chamber of Commerce
Board of Directors
