Support area seniors while seeking out treasures and trinkets at the same time during an upcoming rummage sale at the Hickory House in Spearfish. Home to the Spearfish Nutrition Site and the Tree House Café, several vital services they provide, including Meals-on-Wheels, are in need of additional funding to assist with rising operational costs. To support these programs, they have organized an epic sale that spans four entire rooms from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, May 3 in the lower level of the Hickory House, located at 430 Oriole Dr., in Spearfish. They are accepting donations, however cannot take any more clothing at this time. .

Mornings with Mommy is a fun and easy way for you to enjoy activities with your children and meet other moms. There will be age appropriate activities for infants ages 6 months or older, toddlers and preschoolers. And the best part is, we do all the planning, you just sign up! Moms can mingle with each other and enjoy activities with their children including: arts and crafts, sensory table, flannel stories and story time, music, educational toys, and a snack. The program costs only five dollars per family per class and includes all snacks and activities

Spearfish Area Historical Society presents "The Michelson Trail From Beginning" with Guy Edwards, Dick Lee, & Paul Higbee at the Spearfish Senior Center at 7:30pm on Sunday, May 7th. Open to the public.

What is Jazz? Dr. Janeen Larsen will present a program that will include a simple explanation and demonstration of each of the elements of jazz. Dr. Larsen will also perform examples of the many different styles of jazz and blues on the piano. Janeen Larsen is a classically-trained pianist who also performs and teaches jazz piano, and enjoys finding ways to help people understand and enjoy this fascinating art form.

The monthly Ambassadors Meet & Greet will be on Thursday, May 9 at noon at the chamber office.

We will be starting open mic night Jazz, Bluegrass music at the Bay Leaf Cafe! It will be the 2nd Thursday of every month. Open Mic starts with sign-ups at 5:00pm. We will have food specials and 1/2 price bottles of wine too!

Calling all Black Hills Middle and High School Students! The Spearfish Community Coalition is partnering with the Crow Peak Valley Rangers 4-H Club and 4-H Youth Council Teens to host the 3rd annual Youth Day Leadership Summit. This exciting half day event will kick off with lunch for all attendees followed by an inspiring presentation from Eureka, SD native and former Survivor reality TV contestant Holly Hoffman who will share her motivational message “Never Give Up! The Survivor Way.” The rest of the afternoon will be filled with active workshops presented by: Malcom “Chap” Chapman who will lead a hands-on workshop focused on “The Power of Commitment.” Chapman is a former Marine and has served on the Rapid City city council. Kristi “Cricket” Palmer will lead an interactive session creating awareness for the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. She coordinates the South Dakota National Guard Counterdrug program. Youth Empowerment Team (YET) members & 4-H Youth Council members who will present substance prevention and leadership activities. The closing presentation will be led by Vicki Buehler, sharing her story as "Rocky's Mom." Youth planning to attend the event are asked to pre-register by April 5. There is a $10 registration fee which includes lunch, a t-shirt, gift bag, snacks and eligibility for door prizes. (Scholarships will be available - please call for more information)

The 2013 Thoen Stone Seven is scheduled for Saturday, May 11th. The event (Run or Walk) has a seven-mile course that offers unparalleled views of the Spearfish area as you ascend and descend Lookout Mountain. Start and finish is at the D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery and Archives. All proceeds benefit the Booth Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that promotes, preserves, and enhances the educational, cultural and recreational opportunities at the D.C. Booth Historic National Fish Hatchery and Archives - in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service - for the benefit and enjoyment of the public.

The Days of ’76 Museum features exceptional exhibits of carriages, firearms, rare Native American artifacts and illustrates Deadwood’s enduring friendship with Buffalo Bill Cody. The museum is self-guided and open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Days of ’76 Museum is located at 18 Seventy Six Drive. Free parking is available. The 1892 Queen Anne style mansion was home to two important Deadwood pioneers: Harris Franklin and W.E. Adams. Discover Deadwood’s transition from a raucous mining camp to a civilized society as told through the life of W.E. Adams and his family. Guided tours of the Historic Adams House are given on a first come, first served basis, with tours every half hour beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the last tour at 4:00 p.m. The Historic Adams House is located at 22 Van Buren Street. Free parking is available in front of the historic home or in the Sherman Street parking lot next to the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center.

Spearfish Emergency Ambulance Service will be offering a First Aid, CPR & AED course to the public. Each participant will leave with life saving skills and an American Heart Association certificate. The Days of ’76 Committee and Deadwood History, Inc. will host the official Days of ’76 Museum Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday, May 25, 2013. Events kick off at 9:00 a.m. with a grand opening ceremony presentation by officials and dignitaries. Free tours of the museum, wagon rides, book signings and artist and artisan displays will be offered from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Days of ’76 Museum Grand Opening will include a Historic Centennial Style Show at 10:00 a.m. Doug Hansen will give a presentation on the History of the Days of ’76 Vehicles at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Duane Reichert’s Backstage with a Rodeo Clown performance will take place at 11:00 a.m. A Kids Dummy Roping contest will happen at 1:00 p.m. From 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. the Days of ’76 Committee and Chase Adams will host a Days of ’76 Cowboy Reunion, including an “I Remember When” public forum. The event wraps up with a Cowboy Reunion and Party featuring the music of the Bender Brothers, and a cash bar and snacks from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Cheyenne Crossing will provide a chuck wagon meal for $10 per adult and $5 per child from noon to 2:00 p.m. with music provided by Cowboy Culture. Artists and artisans on hand include Tony Chytka, Doug Hansen, Mick Harrison, Michael McLeod, Dawn Newland and Kathy Thompson. Authors Mel Anderson, Brinda Kuhn and Chris Peters will sign copies of their books. Wilbur Newland will give free wagon rides and Jimmy Mattson will host the dummy roping contest.
