  Daffodil Days
The AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY and the CITY OF SPEARFISH will be celebrating Daffodil Days March 15-19.
During that week, participating businesses, restaurants, banks and other organizations will display thousands of beautiful daffodils through the AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY.
The daffodil has been selected because it is the first flower of spring, and to many, it represents hope for a new season - hope for a world free of cancer.
A contribution of $500 will provide your organization with a box of 500 daffodils, $250 for a half box, or make a donation to sponsor our Gift of Hope program and brigten the day for a local cancer patient.

Alexandra Fuller at BHSU - Presentation and Book Signing
Location: Black Hills State University - Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall

Alexandra Fuller, an author who grew up in Africa and now lives in Wyoming, will visit BHSU March 23 at 7 p.m. in the Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall. Fuller was born in Glossop, England in 1969. The family returned to Africa in 1972, to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), where the Fullers became absorbed by that country’s intensifying bloody struggle for independence. In 1994, Fuller moved to the United States. She now lives in Wyoming with her husband, two daughters and son. Fuller’s experience of that war has influenced all three of her books: The Legend of Colton H. Bryant, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight: An African Childhood, and Scribbling the Cat: Travels with an African Solider. Fuller’s early experience of being always close to death and the reality of death has made Fuller’s work ring with a kind of urgent honesty. That realization of life’s swiftness has also given Fuller’s words a startling, sometimes mordant, humor that is the key behind the success of her work. Fuller’s visit to BHSU, which includes classroom discussions and a presentation open to the public, is sponsored by the Madeline Young Speaker Series.

BHSU Case Library Hosts Michael Trump Book Signing
Location: Black Hills State University - Student Union, Jacket Legacy Room

The Leland D. Case Library at Black Hills State University will host a presentation and book signing with Michael Trump, a 1990 BHSU graduate. The event will be held March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Jacket Legacy room of the David B. Miller Yellow Jacket Student Union.
Trump’s book, Raiding Deadwood’s Bad Lands: Its Illegal History of Prostitution and Gambling is an account of the history of the various raids on vice, concluding with the 1980 closing of the brothels and the Deadwood community’s push to get gambling legalized.
Legal historian Michael Trump researched and wrote a thesis on the 1980 federal raid of the brothels. During his research, he discovered there had been other raids not only on the brothels, but on gambling as well.
Trump also covers aspects of Deadwood’s early years as a wide-open mining camp. Support for the research and publishing of the book was provided by the South Dakota Humanities Council, Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission, TDG Communications and the Adams Museum and House.
The event is free and open to the public with wheelchair accessibility. Refreshments will be served.
